The most common question from new island breeders is whether to push straight to T8 horses or stick with T5. T5 usually wins on return-on-investment. T8 wins on raw daily profit. Which one is right depends on how much silver you have to start and how long you are willing to wait to break even.

The core difference

T5 Expert's Horses have a 3-day growth cycle with premium. The foal costs roughly 150,000 to 200,000 silver on most servers. You can run 27 horses across 3 standard pastures, completing a full cycle every 3 days.

T8 Elder's Horses have a 10-day growth cycle with premium. The foal price is significantly higher, often 1.5M to 3M silver each depending on server and timing. The grown horse sells for considerably more, but so does everything else in the cost chain: more wheat consumed over a longer cycle, higher leather costs for saddling, and more capital tied up waiting for the cycle to complete.

What the numbers look like in practice

Using conservative server prices (T5 foal around 170,000 silver, raw T5 horse around 46,000, saddled around 70,000, T5 leather around 1,100):

Foal cost after cycle 1: 0 silver per day, self-sustaining
Wheat cost if buying all wheat: roughly 340,000 silver per day
Net from raw selling: roughly 47,000 silver per day

T8 horses at current prices show higher per-horse profit but the break-even on the initial foal investment is substantially longer — often 80 to 120 days versus 20 to 40 days for T5 at similar market conditions. T8 also requires more starting capital: 9 foals at 2M each is 18M silver before a single horse is sold.

Which tier to choose

Start with T5 if you have under 10M silver to invest and want to see returns within 30 to 40 days
Move to T8 when you have enough silver that the longer break-even does not create cash flow problems
Mixed setups with some T5 and some T8 pastures let you balance frequent T5 cash flow against higher-margin T8 cycles
